What’s Hot and What’s Not — the Secret Formula

There is no true formula to the art of social media. No quadratic formula or chemical formula for finding success on the various platforms of social media, but there are several ways to at least setting yourself up for the chance at success.

Personal success and fame is much easier to claim, but not as easily for brands. As a brand, it is important to check all the boxes on your social media presence check list.

  • Target audience
  • Tone & voice
  • Platforms
  • Engagement goals
  • KPIs
  • Content

Just to name a few — these are important in determining your platform presence.

Now, let’s say you are rocking and rolling on Facebook and Instagram. Your audience interacts and engages well, you post consistently, but now you see another social media platform sky rocketing. Are you falling behind?

The first step to deciding whether or not you should get with the times or not, is evaluating if your target audience is on that specific platform. Referring to the goals you made from above, does this help push your goals further? What marketing effect does this have on the brand?

What’s that saying again? Oh right, a Jack of all trades, master of none — yeah, let’s avoid this and here is why…

The last thing you want as a brand is to lack in areas that are detrimental to your image. If joining another network is going to lessen the presence or efforts of others, it probably isn’t a great idea. However, if you are an above and beyond multitasker who can delegate or balance better than gymnasts can on a balance beam, then by all means — happy platforming!

Sometimes it raises the question whether or not you should wait to see whether or not the network or trend lasts or should you jump on the opportunity. If a genie granted me 3 wishes — I promise you, this would be one of them. Sadly, there’s no magic answer to this. Ultimately it depends on your audience and brand, along with your goals as a brand.

Covid feels like it got the best of us didn’t it? It was all fun and games the first few days when we binged watched criminal minds and laid in bed all day right? Then reality started to set in — we were running out of things to do. That empty feeling you get every time you finish the last available season of your favorite show. That “now what?” feeling.

Have no fear — TikTok is here!

It feels like TikTok got the majority of us through some really boring downtime. The endless — and I mean endless — UGC that is created. When you sit down for 5 or so minutes to just watch a couple videos and suddenly you’ve been sitting there for 2 hours? Yeah, same.

With the new generation of consumers, it is centered around this presence we all individually hold on social media. We are seeing people make careers out of this. Trying to be the next best thing is the thing.

TikTok “is the most-downloaded free social media app, and second among all app downloads only to Zoom” — Entrepreneur

Get comfortable my fellow people, TikTok is here to stay. Whether you are actively making content, just a casual scroll with no real identity, or someone who wants to be big time on the app and are in your mid twenties trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd (cough cough — me), don’t worry yourself, you have plenty of time. As we see the depletion and downfall of other infamous apps, it only works in their favor.

“According to an online research project from Influencer Marketing Hub, engagement rate is higher on TikTok than other social media platforms (higher than Instagram, and five to 10 times higher than Twitter, depending on account size).” — Entrepreneur

As Instagram’s algorithm is becoming unfriendly to the average user, we are seeing less and less engagement. With posts no longer in chronological order, for every 3 posts an ad appears, and the poor interaction on posts due to this — users are growing more and more unhappy with the app and are finding themselves elsewhere.

Why is TikTok so successful? Entrepreneur tells us:

  • Content editor is native
  • Feed is wired for viral videos
  • Assets are easy to cross-post

The hard reality of it all is that, with the way that social media and presence is shifting, TikTok is not going anywhere soon, and they want to be viral isn’t either.

Happy scrolling!!
