I don’t know about you, but I take the art of people watching as seriously as sports fans take their teams. How many of us have been at our favorite coffee spot, the beach, or maybe even the mall and seen someone “in action”. Maybe that person is taking a Vogue level photo shoot with their cappuccino, or filming their latest Forever 21 haul. We should all know who that someone is.

An influencer.

Influencer marketing is so long a secret. Social media has the world by the neck and she’s looking for a clean knock out. Social media and the power it holds is the type of conversation you would need to take a seat and kick your shoes off for because we would be here for a while.

But — not today.

Today, however, is influencer marketing — the one thing that everyone is trying to be, or every business is trying to take advantage of.

From an influencer standpoint, if you are one of the lucky ones you claim their fame and create a life behind their personas, boy are you in for a ride. An influencer comes with many perks and pros. Some have said that the flexibility of being an influencer is an incentive. They are able to decide their own hours and it all boils down to how much and how often they create content.

Generally speaking, influencers become influencers for the uniqueness or authenticity of themselves or their hobby. This list of what qualifies is never ending. From ASMR to makeup artists, professional traveler, fashionista, blogger, vlogger, TikToker … the list is literally endless.

Here is where the crossover happens. Social media fame is never secure. Someone can become famous and then not famous overnight, others can secure their status for life, some cancelled and other unproblematic. That is why brands jump at the first chances they get to collaborate with, sponsor or even create a partnership.

Having influencers who promote your brand, bring their followers and consumers and create traffic for your brand.

Really a win win situation for both brand and influencer.

Brand: GoPro

The brand that I chose is GoPro. Gopro is a brand that creates technology to be able to film and video experiences and adventures no matter what the conditions. It is a camera company that makes their products equipped to withstand nearly anything — along with all the extra gadgets you could imagine for any sport, adventure or idea to execute your vision.

“GoPro frees people to celebrate the moment, inspiring others to do the same. From cameras to apps and accessories, everything we do is geared to help you capture life as you live it, share the experience and pass on the stroke. We believe that sharing our experiences makes them more meaningful and way more fun.” — GoPro

Why:

GoPro is a great brand and product for influencers to partner with. The main source of content for Gopro is User Generated Content. This allows them to work smarter not harder. By using UGC, they are able to showcase their product, show how successful it is and show that it is being done by real life people, encouraging consumers to purchase their product. Giving this “Anyone can do it, even you. The opportunities are endless” feel to consumers.

Influencer: @ShangerDanger

Shane is a famous Instagram photographer / videographer. He lives in Oahu, Hawaii and spends his days filming and capturing moments of his adventures. He has constant run-ins with pods of dolphins, sharks, island rainbows, deep dives and treasure hunts. He creates high quality content that interacts with his followers wowing their minds and even making them laugh. He is recently TikTok famous with over 7 million followers on the app. He also has a YouTube channel.

Why:

Shane would be a great influencer for GoPro. Being that they thrive off of UGC, each one of his posts could showcase and promote what products he is using. He could be showing just how amazing the cameras and accessories are for his adventures. GoPro also has a house on Oahu and what better way to show the love for the island, than to have an island influencer promoting the brand. Shane has such a great following because he engages and interacts with what they want to see. He has great energy and appeals to his followers. He also lives in a tropical paradise that is a dream place for many. His followers are able to live virtually through him. By having a great number of followers on TikTok, it is a great way to take their brand a step further on another platform that is solely based on video skills and editing.
